Why I Chose Relaxation This Year: My Little 30-Day Self-Care Reset
Share
At the beginning of every year, I like to pause and ask myself one simple thing: what do I actually need this year?
And this year, the answer came very quietly, but completely clearly: relaxation. That is my word of the year.
Not because I want to do less or because I am giving up on ambition. But because I realized how long I have been living with a kind of inner tension. I am always chasing something, planning something, postponing something for when I finally find the time. And the truth is that peace, care and self-care do not happen on their own. We literally have to make time for them.
That is why I decided to do a 30-day self-care challenge, as a gentle reminder to come back to myself. To feel my body, my skin, my rhythm and what truly feels good again through small things.
Relaxation Is No Longer a Luxury for Me
For a long time, I felt that relaxation had to be earned. Ever since high school, and maybe even primary school, everything had to be done first, all responsibilities handled, productivity achieved, and only then maybe you were allowed to rest.
But over the years, that way of thinking slowly pulled me away from myself. And from all those small signals that tell you you need a pause, water, sleep, a walk, silence, sun, a gentler routine.
That is why this year feels different. I no longer want to see self-care as something secondary, or as a reward after exhaustion. I want to live it every day, through small rituals.
I started with the simplest things.
Step into the morning sun.
Drink enough water.
Take a walk after a meal.
Sleep for 8 hours.
Apply a face mask.
Breathe deeply for 10 minutes.
When you read it, it may sound simple, but that simplicity is exactly the point.
What Changed Me the Most Was Slowing Down
When I say my word of the year is relaxation, I do not necessarily mean only spa days and perfect evening routines.
I mean that:
-I do not do everything with tension, my shoulders are constantly raised
-I do not care for my skin automatically and in passing, I try to be present
-I do not eat in a hurry, I enjoy food
-I do not go to sleep exhausted and disconnected from myself, I try to meditate before bed too
For me, relaxation means returning to the body. Noticing how good it feels to catch a little morning sun, or how different my face looks when I am truly well rested, becoming aware of how a walk after a meal literally changes my energy. Realizing that a face mask is not only skincare, but also a message to myself that I matter.
In that sense, self-care stopped being only a beauty topic for me. It became a relationship with myself.
Skincare Became a Ritual, Not a Chore
I think many women will recognize themselves here.
How many times do we do our skincare like a task? Quickly, between a hundred other things, without any presence. And then we wonder why nothing feels like a ritual.
And honestly, I think that is often exactly what we are missing: not more products, but more presence in what we already do. When I wash my face in the evening without rushing, when I apply Radiance Serum and slow down for a moment, I feel like I am not only caring for my skin, but also my nervous system.
Self-Care Is Not Only What You Put on Your Face
This may be my favorite part of the whole story. Because sometimes we forget how connected the skin, digestion, hormones, stress, sleep and energy really are. The idea is clear: beauty is not only external. And the skin knows very well how we live.
My body feels it when I drink too little water for several days in a row, eat chaotically and sleep poorly. But it also feels it when I slow down, eat better, move more and give myself a little peace.
My Goal This Year Is Not More, but Gentler
I think for a long time I set goals that sounded good on paper, but were not necessarily good for me. This year, I want something different.
I want to live a little more slowly.
I want to care for my skin with more attention.
I want to choose what calms me more often.
I want to hold less tension inside.
I want my day to have more softness.
That is why the word relaxation is not just a beautiful word to me. It is my compass.
If you also feel like you need a reset, maybe you do not need another strict routine, another list of things you must do.
Maybe you just need a few small moments in the day that bring you back to yourself.
Maybe it is morning sun or a walk after lunch.
And maybe, like me, this year you need just one word to gently guide you through it all.
Mine is relaxation.
